Hemp expansion sails through Colorado Senate
[Source: DenverPost]
A Colorado bill to expand industrial hemp production has sails through the state Senate and now heads to the House.
Senators voted 35-0 Wednesday to expand the number and size of farms growing hemp, marijuana's non-intoxicating cousin.
The measure would allow year-round hemp cultivation in greenhouses and strike a 10-acre limit on hemp for research and development.
Colorado just opened applications for hemp cultivation in march, with applications accepted until May. Agriculture officials say there is strong interest and that industrial hemp research and production should be expanded.

Hawaii and Minnesota Fire Up Hemp Research Legislation
[Source: www.Marijuana.com]
Hemp cultivation is about to receive a long, hard, second look by both Hawaii and Minnesota, thanks to the recent passage of the US farm bill and the noble efforts of “the canary in the coal mine,” – Colorado’s voters.
It was the combination of these two events that kicked open the doors of prohibition, allowing farmers to once again cultivate hemp. Despite the misgivings of the ignorant right… Hemp can’t get you high – it might give you a colossal headache – but under no circumstances will it get you high! And for many… That’s the rub. In the prohibitionists mind, hemp is analogous to marijuana… Hopelessly intertwined with marijuana’s unearned bad boy reputation.

Colorado Sees First Hemp Crop Harvest In 56 Years
[Source: The Weed Blog]
This past weekend, volunteers gathered in Colorado’s Baca County to harvest the U.S.’s first commercial hemp crop since 1957. The crop was grown by Ryan Loflin, a Colorado resident. Hemp, a plant similar to marijuana but with only trace amounts of THC, is used to make cloth, rope, paper, oils, wax, and other products. According to Hemp Industries Association, the U.S. market sold $500 million of hemp products last year alone, but because of U.S. drug policy, all of that hemp was imported.

What Is Synthetic Marijuana?
[Source: Huffington Post]
Much like Frankenstein's monster, synthetic marijuana was created in a lab and resulted in a perversion of its original subject: the effects of THC, the component of marijuana that provides the "high" sensation. Like marijuana, the drug is smoked, though unlike marijuana it comes in small packets usually labeled "not for human consumption" and has names like "Spice," "Black Mamba," "K2," "Fake Marijuana," "Sexy Monkey" and hundreds of others.
The chemicals in synthetic marijuana are also harder to detect than marijuana in drug tests, and the drug is the second most used illicit drug among high school seniors, behind marijuana itself according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. While certain chemical compounds of synthetic marijuana were banned in Colorado in 2011, there are possibly hundreds more anonymous compounds that haven't been identified yet and thus, aren't illegal.
Just being known as "synthetic marijuana" has angered pot activists because, it's effects are nothing like that of marijuana. Synthetic marijuana's non-cannabis herbs sprayed with lab-created chemicals which are said to give users a stronger high than THC can lead to seizures, hallucinations and convulsions as well as profoundly negative psychological effects.

Ask your U.S. representative to cosponsor H.R. 1523, the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act!
via The Marijuana Policy Project: There is big news in the halls of Congress! A new bipartisan bill would modify the federal Controlled Substances Act so that anyone acting in compliance with a state marijuana law would be immune from federal prosecution.
That’s right. The federal Controlled
Substances Act simply would not apply to marijuana users, dispensary
operators, and other individuals who have been courageous enough to help
take marijuana production and sales above ground into state-regulated
markets. Click here to urge your member of Congress to co-sponsor the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act.
We would like to thank Rep.
Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) for his leadership on this bill. It presents a
perfect opportunity for members to embrace the notion that states should
be able to devise systems for regulating marijuana without their
citizens having to worry about breaking federal law.
The goal is to have this bill be truly
bipartisan, so it is being introduced with three Republicans (Reps.
Rohrabacher, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), and Don Young (R-AK)) and three
Democrats (Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Jared
Polis (D-CO)). In order to build up the list of co-sponsors, we need you
to make your voice heard.
Please use our online action center to urge your member of Congress to co-sponsor the Respect State Marijuana Laws Act. Just two minutes of your time will make a big difference. And please don’t forget to share this email with friends and family so that they can take action too.

Benefits of a Vaporizer
Vaporizing is the substitute for smoking or combustion. Instead of burning the blend, a vaporizer only heat it enough so that the volatile medicinal constituents that are contained inside the plant melt in aromatic vapor. A few advantages to consider if vaporizing.
- Vaporizing releases he active ingredients without combustion, thus eliminating harmful toxins and carcinogens.
- Vaporizing extracts the full flavor, taste and purity of each herbal product.
- Vaporizing saves money - cannabinoids are highly combustible, thus when vaporizing you are not "burning" or wasting the active ingredients, therefore using less to achieve the same effects.

New Hampshire Medical Marijuana Legalization Bill Defeated
[Source: Paul Smith, www.stopthedrugwar.org]
A bill to legalize marijuana in New Hampshire is dead after a House vote Wednesday. The measure was defeated on a vote of 239-122 with no debate. Democrats supported the bill on a roughly two-to-one margin, while Republicans opposed it by roughly the same margin.
The vote against the bill came after the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted 12-8 last month not to pass the measure.
The bill, House Bill 337, would have removed marijuana from the state's criminal code, effectively ending marijuana prohibition in the Granite State, but did not contain any provisions for taxation and regulation of cultivation and sales.
Another marijuana legalization bill, House Bill 492, is still alive, but is stuck in the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee with no vote scheduled. That bill would allow people to grow up to six plants and sets up a scheme to tax and regulate marijuana commerce.
