Revenue From Marijuana Sales Continues To Climb In Colorado
[Source: TheWeedBlog]
Data was released this week for marijuana sales numbers in Colorado from the month of April. As expected, sales increased in the month of April over previous months. The increase is likely due to the fact that April 20th saw an enormous influx of recreational consumers to Colorado for the marijuana holiday, and dispensaries sold more medical marijuana for the holiday as well.
In April, Colorado medical marijuana dispensaries sold roughly $32 million worth of medical marijuana. Revenue from recreational sales was roughly $22 million, which is a 17% increase from March. Roughly $14 million was brought in during February and January for recreational sales. This is great news for the State of Colorado. So far, Colorado has generated almost $18 million dollars in taxes and fees from marijuana since January.

Colorado Law Sets up Marijuana Banks; Feds Must OK
[Source: ABC News]
Seeking to move marijuana businesses away from cash-only operations,
Gov. John Hickenlooper signed legislation Friday that tries to establish
the world's first financial system for the newly legal industry in
Colorado.
The legislation seeks to form a network of uninsured cooperatives
designed to give pot businesses a way to access basic banking services
like checking. But approval from the Federal Reserve remains a hurdle.
Out of fear of violating federal law, banks don't work with marijuana
businesses. That has led to concerns that the burgeoning marijuana
industry could be a target for robberies.
Mike Elliott, executive director of the Marijuana Industry Group, said a
member of his organization was robbed a few days ago. The cash-only
model has become stressful for businesses and their employees, he said.

U.S. House vote blocking feds from meddling in state medical pot laws surprises even advocates
[SOURCE: OregonLive]
An amendment barring the U.S. Department of Justice from interfering with state medical marijuana laws got a surprising boost from GOP lawmakers.
Though many Republican lawmakers remain opposed to marijuana reform, others view the federal war on drugs as overreach "and a violation of the rights of more than two dozen states that have legalized cannabis or specific components of it for medical use," the Los Angeles Times reports. The U.S. House narrowly passed the amendment Friday; it now heads to the Democratic Senate.
Writes LA Times reporter Evan Halper:
Most GOP stalwarts, of course, continue to rail against liberalization of the laws. Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland, a physician, declared during floor debate that medical marijuana is a sham. Real medicine, he said, "is not two joints a day, not a brownie here, a biscuit there. That is not modern medicine."

Legal marijuana created thousands of jobs in Colorado
[Source: Vox.com]
Marijuana dispensaries characterize it as a bit of a gold rush: the sudden swarm of thousands of people from in and out of Colorado trying to get into the state's new recreational marijuana industry.
"Everybody's expanding right now," Elan Nelson, business consultant for Medicine Man, one of the largest marijuana shops in Denver. "Really, we're just trying to keep up with demand."
Since retail sales of recreational marijuana began in January, the state has seen a small boom in jobs. The Marijuana Industry Group (MIG) estimates there are currently about 10,000 people directly involved with marijuana, with 1,000 to 2,000 joining in the past few months and more expected as high demand for recreational marijuana continues. MIG says it's hard to separate how many of those 10,000 jobs are tied to recreational marijuana and which are exclusively on the medical side, but at least a few thousand jobs came during and after the preparation and start of recreational sales.

Dr. Oz Backs Medical Marijuana, Says It's 'Hugely Beneficial'
The movement of the benefits that medical marijuana can provide just keep climbing the mountain that many thought was impossible. Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE!!!
[Source: Huffington Post ]
Medical marijuana just got another celebrity doctor's public support.
During an interview Monday with Dr. Mehmet Oz on "Larry King Live", King asked Oz if he'd changed his views on marijuana.
"I have," Oz responded, and went on to explain just how far he's come from his early beliefs about the plant. "I grew up like most of my generation believing that marijuana was something Satan was throwing at Americans, a communist plot. But I think most of us have come around to the believe that marijuana is hugely beneficial when used correctly for medicinal purposes," Oz said.
Oz joins the ranks of other TV medical experts who have come out in support of medical marijuana in recent years, including CNN's chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who recently "doubled down" on his support, and ABC News' chief health and medical editor Dr. Richard Besser.
A vast majority of Americans now believe that marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes. According to a recent CBS News poll, 86 percent of Americans think that doctors should be able to legally prescribe medical cannabis to patients suffering from serious illnesses.

[Source: eyeonyou - May 1, 2014]
"This is a truly righteous little shop with smart service and wonderful product, many strains that are hard to find. When I'm out here vacationing this is where I most like to procure my meds, granted I haven't been to many labs hereabouts but this is obviously 5 solid stars across the board."

Do It Yourself Marijuana BALM
[Source: THCFinder]
Cannabis can be great for smoking but it can also be great for
assisting with skin problems like eczema, severe dry skin, and uneven
skin tone. While some people have a lot of trouble finding these
products, others have been generous enough to share their methods on the
web, providing us with a very basic recipe that pretty much anyone can
make! The following recipe will give you a great cannabalm that will
improve your skin and leave you feeling refreshed!
What You'll Need;
1.0oz liquid vegetable glycerin
.3oz essential oil of your preference
24.0 oz distilled H2O
1.2oz cosmetic grade stearic acid
1.2oz emusifying wax
.3oz germaben
4.0oz strong cannabis oil or fat
Small amount of menthol crystals (optional but will do a sunburn wonders if applied!)
Take all of the ingredients with the exception of the menthol crystals
(if you choose to add them) and the essential oils and put them in to a
double boiler that you have set up (remember the double boiler?). Whisk
them together until they're blended together very well. The mixture
should be creamy in texture. Once everything is blended, you can add in
the last two ingredients if you want to. While the substance is still
warm, pour it in to bottles. This recipe will give you 32oz of lotion.
Trust me, using this on your skin will keep you moisturized, fresh
smelling, and free of the dangerous chemicals that some lotion companies
use!

Henry Rollins: “America will survive the legalization of cannabis"
[Source: The Cannabists]
It’s long been known that punk rocker Henry Rollins is a literate, discerning, smartly cynical individual. The former Black Flag frontman is an outspoken advocate for a number of social issues, and now the pro-marijuana legalization collectives can count him among their flock.
Rollins was in Denver on 4/20 weekend to hit the Cannabis Cup and other pot-spots for a television show he’s creating. Since he was already here, he also gave a number of interviews and wrote a column for LA Weekly to talk about the need for the legalization and decriminalization of marijuana in America.

Retired Supreme Court Justice Stevens: Feds Should Legalize Marijuana
[Source: NORML]
In an interview with NPR released today, retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens came out in support for marijuana legalization.
When asked if he believed the
federal government should legalize marijuana, the 94 year old former Justice
replied:
“Yes, I really think that that’s
another instance of public opinion [that's] changed. And recognize that the
distinction between marijuana and alcoholic beverages is really not much of a
distinction. Alcohol, the prohibition against selling and dispensing alcoholic
beverages has I think been generally, there’s a general consensus that it was
not worth the cost. And I think really in time that will be the general
consensus with respect to this particular drug.”

Hemp expansion sails through Colorado Senate
[Source: DenverPost]
A Colorado bill to expand industrial hemp production has sails through the state Senate and now heads to the House.
Senators voted 35-0 Wednesday to expand the number and size of farms growing hemp, marijuana's non-intoxicating cousin.
The measure would allow year-round hemp cultivation in greenhouses and strike a 10-acre limit on hemp for research and development.
Colorado just opened applications for hemp cultivation in march, with applications accepted until May. Agriculture officials say there is strong interest and that industrial hemp research and production should be expanded.

"The Cream of the Crop" as We Rise to the Top - MMJ Review
[Source: electicauntjemima9 - March 24, 2014]
"The best MMJ in the state lives here. Even though the prices
are sky high Boulder prices there are ALWAYS some wicked specials that
can get you into something good for very little investment.
Enough about money…
NBWC has by far the best medical products for anyone looking for high CBD flowers (Cannatonic) and the incomparable Otto Shatter which can be 60% CBD!!!
The store always has high quality buds and they ALWAYS come as huge nugs or they are discounted accordingly as popcorn or skittles. This is the holy grail, the highly sought after Colorado bud that has become legendary over the last few years. I cannot recommend this dispensary highly enough, by far the highest quality bud and most knowledgeable staff you will find.
Did I mention they have a HUGE selection of products? From four grades of flowers to a whole galaxy of waxes, shatters, moon rocks, edibles, and pens. There is always a good mix of indicas and sativas available and this is one of the only dispensaries that consistently carries a range of hybrids at a reasonable price, and also knows what they are!
The best, and I do mean the best, strains live at NBWC, the list reads like a veritable walk of fame: Strawberry Cough, LA Woman, Mazir I Sharif, Qrazy Train, Sweet Sweet, Cherry AK, some of these are in very high demand and never seem to be available at other dispensaries but are never in short supply here!
Stop in, you won't be disappointed."

Allstar Blake Griffin Endorses Medical Marijuana Use In The NBA
[Source: TheWeedBlog]
In an interview with Rolling Stone yesterday, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers voiced his support of medical marijuana use to treat pain in the NBA. Currently, the NBA has strict penalties for drug use, which typically lead to suspensions and fines. It was only in 2011 that the NBA stopped testing for marijuana use in the off-season, but now that marijuana is in the limelight, its place in the NBA, as a form of medical treatment for pain, has come into question.
